What’s good for the environment can also be good for business

Challenging ourselves to minimize the environmental impact of what's turned out to be Ireland's first ecostore informs every decision we make.
We chose a brownfield site in town with underground parking to minimise the visual impact.
The construction materials we used have a longer than usual lifespan - well over 40 years.
We took a long term view when investing in insulation and building fabric to avoid unnecessary future energy consumption costs.

All the time you have to focus on results, whether you’re looking at architecture, materials or suppliers:
maximise natural light
minimize heat loss
source locally.

But you also have to remember the details than make people feel good. Outdoor seating and flower beds for instance are good for staff and attractive to customers.

The capital costs are higher but long term there’ll be savings. For instance waste heat from the fridges is recycled to provide air con in summer and heating in winter, lowering our energy bills.

Working with Musgrave store design teams we’ve learnt a lot, and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved.

"It never occurred to us to call it Ireland's first ecostore - but we're delighted that's how it's seen!"
