Reducing fuel consumption is challenging – but it’s rewarding too
Driving trucks used to be about getting from A to B as quickly as possible. These days, getting it right means doing the job with the lowest possible fuel consumption.
The company delivers the training and it’s up to us to deliver the results. It’s completely changed the way we approach our work.
Being assessed on fuel consumption is a big incentive, but it’s also become a personal challenge. The lads are fairly competitive about it now and rightly so: it’s a real skill, and you’ve got to think about all the factors, all the time.
It’s not just about speed or driving style – you’ve got to consider the temperature, the state of the road, your load – everything.
