Tough targets – real commitment

Our strategic plans combine setting challenging targets with a commitment to research and technological development. For example, in order to meet our emissions reduction targets, we will continue to trial alternative-fuel vehicles and aim to using new technologies and 10 per cent bio-diesel from sustainable sources to reduce the carbon footprint of our diesel powered fleets over the next five years.

We’re determined to reach our target of reducing vehicle CO2 emissions per case delivered by 15 per cent, and to reduce business air travel by 30 per cent over the next five years.

Refrigeration is another area on which we hope to report significant advances in the next 12 months. Carbon neutral cryogenic units may well be the way forward.

However, we feel this needs to be a shared effort. To have a real chance of achieving our goals, we believe that much closer co-operation is needed between business, government and the community.
